Future and Options (F&O) Ban

When the F&O contracts are in the ban period, no fresh positions are allowed to be taken in that stock. However you will be allowed to close your existing positions during this period.

The ban is reversed only if the Open Interest (OI) falls below 80%.

Market-wide Positions Limits (MWPLs)

The exchanges set MWPLs for stocks traded in the F&O segments.

The maximum number of contracts that can be opened, enter a ban period any time the OI of a stock crosses 95% of the MWPL of all F&O contracts of a particular stock.
